PBUG’s first project, “The Buko Project” entitles “Bagani is about” the two different warriors Lapu-Lapu and Magellan. The members of PBUG have their own assigned tasks and were divided into 8 groups. Each group has different responsibilities. This section shows the development and the Movie Progress of the Buko Project.

On December 3, 2008, members of the PBUG held a meeting at 11th floor, unit 1101, City&Land Megaplaza ADB Avenue, Cor. Garnet Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The members who attended were jdam, ann, reynante, OpenSource, eliza, Kai, Rykinx, randy, arkikuja, mikel, dalsky and lawrence. On the meeting, the attendees introduced themselves, discussed on how they found out about the Pinoy blender, and the idea of making an Open Movie came up. They all agreed that the movie will be about Lapu-lapu, the first Filipino hero.

After the meeting, the members started to give contributions for the film. Kai made a sample head of Lapu-lapu and jsmataro made a face texture for the Spaniards. The members of each group started giving suggestions about the plans and creation of the movie. Jsmataro gave the idea of the Bagani which was voted by the members to be the title of the movie. He also proposed a storyboard and dagwayjack made his own version of the storyline or the sequence of the film. Jsmataro made a topic in the forum where the members can suggest what scenes they would like to see in the movie that includes the fight scenes, the sceneries, etc.  According to dagwayjack, the movie will need more than a year to be created to produce a great result. Jsmataro suggested to use the baybayin or alibata in the Open Movie which the other members agreed upon.

The Design and Concept group made the face textures, conceptualized the scenes, the meshes to be done, the architecture, the ships used by the Spaniards and the weapons and armors of the warriors. The characters include Lapu-Lapu, Magellan & Humabon. The weapons are the  kampilan, bolo, bow & arrow, sword, shield, crossbow, helmet, armor and boots. Other meshes to be done includes coconut trees, galleon/banca de pala, balanghai, animals, the Mactan beach, and Magellan’s camp. The members also experimented on the textures and lights using Blender for the scenes.

The 2nd PBUG EB Meetup was held on in 11th floor, unit 1101, City&Land Megaplaza ADB Avenue, Cor. Garnet Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City last February 28, 2009. The members who attended were ann, jdam, lazarus07, RykinX, Venz, Kai, jsmataro, jimbablend, and marwin. There were some who did not attend the first meeting so they started with a general introduction. Who are they and what brought them to blender. The members also discussed about the Animation Script made by dagwayjack and discussed about the suggested scenes they want to include. They also agreed that they should have a blog to illustrate and document the project.

Lazarus07 suggested to use Subversion, an Open Source control system to easily monitor the changes and development in the project. He also rewritten dagwayjack’s screenplay and made several revisions to it. On March 26, 2009 the Buko Project website created by jdam was officially launched . The logo was designed by jsmataro.

On October 25, 2009, Buko Project was under a 18-month development process in order to have a finite guide in the project. Git was chosen for the project over Subversion to enable people to work offline much more easier. The PBUG IRC was created as well to facilitate the development of Buko Project.
